about
Coloratura soprano Katie Nixon is “is a smoldering, evocative menace of an artist” (Capitol Critics Circle) with a clear, easy extension and an expressive tone from top to bottom. Naturally intuitive onstage, “Katie’s enthusiasm is infectious” (GoErie). Upcoming engagements include performing in the premiere of the new musical My Favorite Podcast: the unofficial MFM musical with Virtual Venue Theatricals and as the Bat in L’enfant et les sortilèges with Spotlight on Opera.
Katie wrote and performed in her internationally acclaimed solo show 52 Pickup. 52 Pickup was the winner of the 2019 Ottawa Fringe’s Outstanding Solo Performance Award, Toasted Theatre Company’s Brave Award, and had a sold out run at PACA. 52 Pickup will premiere in NYC this winter and be made into a movie this fall! During the pandemic, Katie performed and produced with Virtual Venue Theatricals.
Katie has been awarded the Mona Shibley Bird Scholarship for excellence in performance, the Stan Latta Scholarship for Leadership in the Arts, The Zonta Club of New York’s Dorothy Stickney Scholarship, and two grants from the Student Engagement Network to create new plays. Katie is workshopping an original piece about the collision of American and Eastern European cultures.
Katie was born in Erie, Pennsylvania and received her BFA in acting and minor in vocal performance from The Pennsylvania State University. At Penn State, Nixon was involved in six main stage productions, ranging from Mariah in Twelfth Night to White Marie in Barbecue. Other projects included Every 28 Hours, a devised piece highlighting the Black Lives Matter Movement as well as Penn State Opera Theatre's stagings of The Telephone and Suor Angelica. Beyond Penn State, Nixon spent time at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey as an apprentice at the Summer Professional Training Program and fell in love with British life while studying abroad in London. She currently studies with Erin McDaniels. Katie is also an accomplished guitarist! Outside of the music world, Katie enjoys training her horse, Berti, in Hunter Jumpers and spending time with her fiancé.
